
A U.S. delegation, led by U.S. Department of State’s Africa Bureau Acting Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary Peter Barlerin, participated in a one-day workshop in Nouakchott with a Sahel G-5 delegation led by the Permanent Secretary Najim Elhadj Mohamed. The objective of this meeting is to reinforce the U.S. relationship with the G-5, build on regional momentum in support of the regional organization, and to consult on priorities shared by the United States and the Sahel G-5. During the meeting, the participants had a collaborative exchange of view about these issues. The meeting is a part of the U.S. government’s capacity building initiatives to address transnational security, humanitarian, and development challenges facing regional partners. The United States remains committed to supporting enhanced coordination and integration in the Sahel.
