I would like to begin my remarks by expressing my honor in being in your beautiful country in my capacity as Ambassador of the United States of America to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. It is my great pleasure to convey to the people of Mauritania the greetings and salutations from the people of the United States.

I have just left my meeting with President Mohamed Ould Abdul Aziz. During my meeting, I pledged to work towards our shared interests, goals, and aspirations. We have partnered effectively in the past in many areas, including security and increasing opportunities for prosperity. It is my firm belief that the coming years offer even greater opportunities to strengthen these bonds, especially in the field of economic cooperation. I clearly reaffirmed to the President the strong commitment of the United States to build upon what we, the United States and Mauritania have achieved in order to advance our shared interests in security, prosperity and the rule of law for all the citizens of our two great countries.

I would like to reiterate my honor and pleasure for my wife and I to be here in Mauritania. I look forward to meeting and working with the incredibly diverse people of this country.
Thank you.

Michael Dodman,
U.S. Ambassador to Mauritania
