Location: Nouakchott, Mauritania
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott advises U.S. citizens of a new scam used by criminal gangs to lure and trap unsuspecting persons. Gangs are now using small children to approach would-be victims pretending to be lost. When the person stops to speak with the child, the child shows them a piece of paper with an address on it, claiming it is their home address. The child asks for a ride home, and when the individual brings them to the address, they are ambushed by the gang who robs and/or assaults them. Murders and sexual assaults have also been reported.
