On Thursday, January 22, Ambassador Larry André, the Africa Special Operations Commander Major General James Linder, as well as Mauritanian Government and Military Officials participated in a ground breaking ceremony for a health clinic in Bouhadrja Village located in Diawling National Park.  The site was chosen due to the dire need of the villagers for a healthcare facility in closer proximity.   Currently, there is no preexisting healthcare facility within a 2 hour drive of Bouhadjra.  The Mauritanian Ministry of Health collaborated with the United States on the project and has agreed to equip and employ health care providers to this clinic once it is built.  Upon the completion, the clinic will serve a growing population of 2,000 plus people in the surrounding villages.  Also during the ceremony the US and Mauritanian Militaries donated over 50 bags of school of supplies and over 100 notebooks to the local school.
