The U.S. Embassy in Mauritania organized a reception on April 25, 2018 to honor the 21 Mauritanian students and young professionals selected this year to participate in further studies in the United States. Chargé d’Affaires Irvin Hicks presided over the ceremony.
These 21 young Mauritanians will participate in some of the most prestigious academic exchange programs sponsored by the State Department, including: Fulbright, Young African Leaders’ Initiative (YALI), Global UGRAD, and Pan-Africa Youth Leadership programs.
Candidates were selected according to their academic progress, professional accomplishments, community service and volunteering activities in Mauritania.
The embassy has contributed approximately $880,000 U.S. dollars (31 million Ouguiya), to fund these scholarships this year in support of Mauritanian youth. We hope that all the Mauritanians who benefit from our training programs will go on to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of Mauritania.
