Deputy Chief of Mission Inga Heemink

Inga Heemink assumed her assignment as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania in July 2022.

Prior to her posting in Nouakchott, she attended the National War College, where she received a M.S. in National Security Strategy. Her previous overseas tours include assignments in Islamabad, Cape Town, Afghanistan (Ghor Province), Addis Ababa, the MFO/Sinai Watch, Lisbon, and Luanda. Domestically, she served on the Department of State’s Board of Examiners (BEX) and as the Deputy Office Director of the Office of Multilateral Coordination and External Relations in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM/MCE).

Prior to joining the Foreign Service in 2002, Inga worked in public health research. She has a B.S. in Biology and a MPH in International Health.
