A ceremony for the handing over of materials to two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the implementation of the grants component as part of the prevention of radicalization and violent extremism

Nouakchott, December 16, 2020 – The Partnerships for Peace Program (P4P) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a material handover ceremony for two NGOs, ‘The Voice of Hope’ and ‘Development Initiative’ as part of the implementation of the grants component of the P4P program. The delivery of said material supports the two NGOs in the creation of jobs for young people and women in vulnerable communities to make them resilient in the face of violent extremism and radicalization.
This equipment consists of two grain mills, a mold and inputs for the brick factory, three local soap making kits, tools for the market gardener, pastry kits for young people who are trained in matter. The beneficiaries are communities from the Guidimakha, Gorgol and Nouakchott regions.
Training in IGA (Income Generating Activities), nutritional and health education services and especially information and communication on barrier actions against COVID-19, will strengthen the capacities of these populations to better cope with COVID-19. There will also be training on soap making, market gardening, baking and the production of building bricks.

The Partnerships for Peace (P4P) program is a USAID project that contributes to the achievement of the US government’s goal of reducing vulnerability to violent extremism in West Africa. This five-year program (September 2016- September 2021) works with stakeholders at regional and national levels in West Africa, to develop a common understanding of violent extremism in the Sahel region. P4P also aims to improve the institutional capacity of organizations and governments to implement more effective and coordinated approaches to preventing violent extremism. At this stage, the project covers Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, Mauritania, and the Executive Secretariat of the G5 Sahel.
